Insulation FAQs

If your questions aren’t answered below or if you’re curious to learn more, give us a call! We’re happy to be a resource to help you make the right choice when it comes to insulation for your home.

The answer to this is, it depends. How large is your space? What type of insulation will you be using? Etc. It’s not a complicated question to answer but different environments (warm vs cold) and spaces make the answer to this a variable one.

Absolutely! Insulation works both ways, mainly in the form of preventing heat transfer. Fiberglass, cellulose, and foam are all designed to be a barrier that slows down the transfer of heat from the outside to the inside of your home. This also means that insulation can help prevent excessive heat from entering your house during the summer, keeping the interior cooler.

Again, we run into a variable answer here. Both types of insulation have pros and cons. When it comes with blown in insulation, it’s typically more expensive however it has a better air seal and higher R value both of which contribute to minimal heat transfer year round. Batted insulation is typically more affordable and easier to install. If you’re on a tighter budget, batted is the more popular option.

Proper attic ventilation is crucial for preventing roof damage and maintaining energy efficiency. Soffit vents allow fresh air into the attic, while ridge vents or other exhaust vents enable hot air to escape. The recommended ratio is about 1 square foot of ventilation (half intake and half exhaust) for every 300 square feet of attic floor area. Adequate ventilation helps remove excess heat and moisture, reducing the risk of condensation and promoting a healthier attic environment.
